Lady Lions Roar Back to the State Championship After 40-Year Wait

For the first time in four decades, the French Settlement Lady Lions are headed back to the state championship game.

With a commanding 63–51 victory over the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs in the semifinals, the Lady Lions punched their ticket to the title game in the LHSAA’s annual Marsh Madness tournament. The semifinal matchup showcased the determination and composure that has defined French Settlement’s season.

Leading the charge were two standout performances. Stella Allison powered the offense with 21 points, while Brady Trabeau added 20 points of her own, helping the Lady Lions pull away and secure the win.

The victory carries historic significance for the program. French Settlement has not appeared in the state championship game in 40 years, and the team now has an opportunity to capture its first state title since 1964.

The championship games are being held at the University Center at Southeastern Louisiana University, where the Lady Lions will return to the court with a chance to make history.

Standing in their way is the #3 seeded Westlake Rams, who will face the #1 seeded Lady Lions in the title matchup. With momentum on their side and a season defined by teamwork and resilience, French Settlement now sits just one win away from bringing a long-awaited championship back home.

After decades of waiting, the Lady Lions have their moment.

Now, they’ll look to finish the story. 🏀🦁

Tickets for the championship game can be purchased here. They are $20.
