Lions head to state basketball tournament for the first time since 1966


The French Settlement High School Lions basketball team are heading to the state basketball tournament for the first time since 1966.


The (2) Lions defeated (10) St. Helena in the Division III quarterfinals to punch their ticket to state.


"I'm just proud of my boys," head coach Jake Bourgeois said. "It's my first freshman group at French Settlement. I'm elated and excited. It's hard to put into words."


The Lions will now face (3) Winnfield Wednesday at the Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles.


Game day student information


Students can help celebrate the Lions road to the state basketball tournament by earing any French Settlement, green or gold shirt with school bottoms Wednesday, March 8.


FSHS will have an 11 a.m. early dismissal on Wednesday.

The Lions will have a 6:15 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday, March 8.

What's next for the Lions?


If the Lions win their game Wednesday, they will play the winner of the (1) Port Allen vs. (4) Patterson matchup. That game will be played Wednesday at 4:45 p.m.
